NEW YORK, March 5, 2018 – The Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) New York Office is launching a ‘Come to Japan‘ Campaign for American travelers.

The campaign is a digital promotion element of ‘Cool Japan’, the Japanese government’s strategy to cultivate and promote Japanese culture in other countries. The campaign features Kizuna AI, the world’s first virtual YouTuber as its ambassador. Through social media platforms, including YouTube and Instagram, this campaign engages Americans and encourages them to consider Japanese travel.

TOKYO — Chinese tourists have pushed Japan within reach of its ambitious tourism target—five years ahead of schedule.

Japan has attracted 16.3 million foreign tourists already this year, beating its previous full-year record of 13.4 million as the number of Chinese visitors has more than doubled, according to data released Wednesday by the Japan National Tourism Organization.

The agency aims to encourage foreign tourists — who primarily tend to visit the Tokyo metropolitan area, an area surrounding Mt. Fuji and the Kansai area — to visit attractive sightseeing spots in regional areas linked to specific themes.
