Mitsubishi Aircraft Corp.’s new jet took off on its debut flight from Nagoya airport in central Japan, half a century after the country last introduced a new passenger plane.

The Mitsubishi Regional Jet, which can seat as many as 92 passengers, took off at 9:35 a.m. Wednesday with two pilots. A round of applause rang out when the plane landed back in Nagoya at 11:02 a.m. after a flight that took it over Japan’s Pacific coast.

In the fiscal year 2009, there were 1243 incineration facilities in Japan, incinerating garbage using several methods – stoker furnaces, fluidized bed furnaces, and gasification fusion resource furnaces with the objective of ash recycling. Stoker furnaces account for 70% of all furnaces, and improvement of this type of furnace is progressing rapidly.

Japan’s government will form a working team to study ways to help stop the spread of infectious diseases overseas.

The United Nations and other global bodies say Ebola infections spread because medical systems were insufficient in the West African nations where the outbreak originated. They say the countries could not deal properly with the disease in its initial stage.
